What if the Catholic Faith could make you a better runner?
What if running could make you a better Catholic?
Before you toss these ideas out with your last pair of running shoes, take the next thirty days and put them to the test.
In The Catholic Runner: 30 Days of Motivation and Inspiration, Catholic runner Chris Easterly becomes your personal trainer and running buddy, encouraging you with stories of his own running successes and failures, along with Scripture, saints quotes, and insights that will keep you going or get you started. The brief daily devotions come with a (totally doable) running challenge and a prayer to keep with you during your day.
Whether you’re preparing for a 5K or a marathon, or you want to start running to improve your health, during these thirty days you’ll notice changes. You’ll find yourself growing closer to God and becoming a better runner — and a better Catholic! — because you’ll be giving it all to him.

From the Publisher
Why a book on running and the Catholic faith?
Our faith encourages us to strive for a life in which all aspects — spirituality, home, hobbies, work, activity, everything — are integrated. Scripture says: “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Cor 10:31) So our faith should be an integral part of our experience as runners, too.

A note from the author
“This book is a practical and inspirational guide for runners of all ages and skill levels. You can use it as a tool to strengthen yourself spiritually and physically. If you’re training for a race, you can start 30 days out from your race day, and use the book to prepare, encourage, and inspire yourself leading up to your event. If you’re simply running your normal daily routine, you can read for motivation and advice. Or you may want to return to specific reflections you find helpful at any time. In this book, you’ll read accounts of my own running experiences. Along the way, I’ll share what I’ve learned about running and the spiritual life along with training and nutrition advice. I also include inspirational quotes and insights from runners, saints, and Scripture.”
From week 13
When the Son of God took on human flesh, the physical and the divine bonded forever. Heaven kissed earth, and salvation broke forth upon the world. Indescribable joy became a possibility for human beings. This brush with joy happens whenever we truly encounter God. Sometimes that encounter happens during a run.
From week 25
“Do you ever feel alone in the cosmos? You’re not. The Nicene Creed proclaims: “I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.” The same God who formed a billion stars formed you. Stars shine. Galaxies swirl. And you run. And when you do, you participate in the great cosmic celebration of all creation.”
From week 18
As baptized Christians, we are all called to pray and intercede for others before God. One of the beautiful aspects of Christianity is that there’s no one right way to do this. We can be creative. We can pray with our mind, and we can pray with our body. We can pray on our knees, and we can pray on a race track. If the whole world is God’s, then even a running trail can be the throne room in which we bring to him the needs of others.
From week 30
The great thing about the spiritual race is that we can train for it even while we’re running it. We can build up our strength, speed, and endurance by receiving the sacraments. We can be fuelled by wisdom and inspiration from the Scriptures. We can receive encouragement and support from other believers all along the way. Maybe that’s what the prophet Isaiah was hinting at when he said that ‘They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, / they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint’ (Is 40:31)”.
